Frederick got married a forth night ago in umuahia. After the traditional marriage ceremony was over, his father in-law thank him for making the family proud and advice him on how to make his marriage work. In the process his father in-law told him that it is their tradition that any daughter from the land that is married must take along a younger brother or sister to life with her as her responsibility. Frederick who is a hustler and knows his financial status was quiet and did not alter a word. When they were about to leave for the city, Frederick called his wife and told her that the sister that was handed over to them should stay behind that they would come back to pick her when they move to a 2 bedroom apartment.
The wife related the message to her parents, but they insisted the younger sister must go with her immediately. Frederick tried his best to explain to them that he occupy a one-bedroom apartment and that his financial status may not be able to carry the extra luggage. but they insisted it is their culture and that they cannot do otherwise. Frederick stood his ground and finally left with his wife. When they got back to the city, he told his wife that he would not allow anyone to burden him with their own responsibility in the name of culture. his wife told him he either accepts it or prepare for trouble.
Is Frederick right in his decision.
If u are his wife, how would u approach this issue
can responsibility/culture be forced on someone from another tribe in the name of marriage.
